The history points it´s finger at the british who worked the mines of the Rio Tinto and were the first settlers in Punta Umbria. Nonetheless, it´s a little a risky affirmation, since they arrived on the Costa de la Luz at the end of the 19th century, and in that time the Vigia Tower and a few fisherman homes already existed in the surroundings.

Romans, Iberians, arabs, and Christians have all passed through Punta Umbria, but the reality is that when the english arrived, the life in this town was rustic, not developed and there were only 4 houses, a tower and a tavern where the police force and fisherman relaxed after a long day of work in their respective duties.

THe families of these two work sectors were in charge of preparing the land by farming the area of the ria and the tower. It was the english who after their arrival in the beginings of the 20th century started building log cabins, and worked in the Rio Tinto mines and passed their summers there. This caused Punta Umbria in Huelva, Spain to start focusing on tourism as a main source of income, and the first tourist bar opened. In this sense the fluvial transportation began in the beginings of the 20th century for which this locality began to grow quickly.

Punta Umbria is one of the most important cities along the Costa de la luz from a tourist point of view. It was the first, or pioneer town that began exploiting this economic resource. In it´s municipality you´ll find monuments like the church of the Virgen del Carmen or the House of the English, a museum that covers the situation lived in the beginings of the 20th century when the first home constructions began for those coming on holiday. The Almenara Tower is very important as well. It was ordered to be built by Phillip III in the 16th century, around the year 1577.
